Making the impossible possible
- Our customer Daimler dedicates an article to the Fritz Winter iron foundry in the "Daimler Supplier Magazine.
Daimler trucks have to prove themselves every day in fierce competition worldwide. One thing is clear: economy, ergonomics, and innovative strength are decisive factors here. And just as our customers can rely on our trucks, Daimler must also rely on the partners who help make Daimler Trucks what they are - unique!
Rapid response to changes in sales markets, for example, or rising quality requirements primarily call for close cooperation and the utmost trust. In the case of the Daimler Supplier Award winner in the Partnership category, Global Procurement Trucks & Buses, the proverbial "iron" will is added to both.
This will is possessed 100 percent by the Fritz Winter iron foundry from Stadtallendorf in Hesse. Fritz Winter's performance statements: "We love what we do! Making heavy things light! Making the impossible possible! Perfecting processes. Responding flexibly.", are not just words, but lived values of the company, as demonstrated.
In just five months to the crankcase
The Fritz Winter iron foundry earns the award of the category partnership by the development and delivery of crankcases in an extraordinary speed. By delivering the first parts after only a few months and then delivering the series parts in rapid succession, an earlier start of production was made possible. Fritz Winter has thus achieved something unique, namely to significantly shorten the regular project timeframe. This only works if you can rely on each other 100 percent every minute.
"Fritz Winter Eisengießerei is putting this into practice! In 2018, the company developed and delivered state-of-the-art crankcases at exceptional speed, enabling an early start to production. The result? Fritz Winter Eisengießerei has given our Trucks & Buses portfolio a boost."
Dr. Marcus Schoeneberg, Vice President Global Procurement Trucks & Buses, Daimler AG
Fritz Winter is a global partner in the development, production and supply of innovative finished components and complex system parts for the automotive, commercial vehicle and hydraulics industries. With innovative manufacturing concepts that are constantly being further developed, the family-owned company founded in 1951 is already ensuring the mobility of tomorrow today. The material basis is sustainable, because recycled iron serves as the raw material of the high-tech products.
In the last 3 years, Fritz Winter invested 11.6 million euros in additional air pollution control technology. The result: an undercutting of the legal emission values up to 95% and the immission values up to 90%.
Today Fritz Winter is globally one of the largest foundries independent of a group.
Furthermore, Fritz Winter has been a member of the Global Compact of the United Nations since 2007. It thus outlaws forced or child labor and is committed to environmental protection, the recognition of human rights and equal opportunities.
Three questions for Jörg Rumikewitz, CEO Fritz Winter Eisengießerei
Mr. Rumikewitz, we are delighted that you won the title at the Daimler Supplier Award 2018 for Global Procurement Trucks & Buses in the Partnership category. Congratulations again at this point. Your website features the statement, "We glow with enthusiasm." What is your general secret to success?
Our secret to success is based first and foremost on our employees. It is not for nothing that our company says: "Quality has a name with us, and 3,900 times over."
What is the biggest challenge in achieving this record time?
The biggest challenge is to master the complex foundry process and the associated sub-processes. This is where Fritz Winter's core competencies in product and tool development come in handy. In addition to these core competencies, the perfect interaction, as well as the scheduling and technical coordination between Fritz Winter, the customer and other service providers is very important.
How was the award received by your team?
Customer satisfaction is lived by our team. Receiving the award was a confirmation of this philosophy. The joy that their performance was honored by the award of our customer Daimler was accordingly great.
We thank you for the answers and congratulate you and your team for the performance and the well-deserved award.
