One year after the groundbreaking, the new production plant of Fritz Winter Iron Foundry (Eisengießerei GmbH & Co. KG) at Franklin (Kentucky) was ceremonially inaugurated by means of a „Ribbon Cutting Event“.
The new construction of the foundry and the mechanical machining department was put into operation already in June with the first pouring and the production on the machining lines. “After a construction time of not even one year, the first products rolled off the production line. This is a performance we can be really proud of“, says Jörg Rumikewitz, CEO of company Fritz Winter, with happiness. This happiness was obvious during the inauguration ceremony to which numerous guests arrived.
Fritz Winter had determined to make this investment in Kentucky due to the trend towards global platforms in the automotive industry, among other reasons. As internationally active automotive manufacturers wish to offer globally identical vehicles complying with highest quality standards to their customers, also the suppliers have to meet the challenges of the globalization. On the brake disc market which is highly important for Fritz Winter, there are only few suppliers that are in a position to meet this customer requirement of a local production with a global service “from one source” – with the plant in Kentucky, Fritz Winter rises to one of the most important manufacturers of brake discs worldwide. At the same time, the development of new, innovative products as well as the determination of global standards in the Quality Management will continue to be performed at Stadtallendorf.
“After we have supplied the American market from Germany for more than fifty years now, the first own foundry in the USA is an important milestone of our globalization strategy”, says Ulf M. Kranz, CFO. “This investment and our ability to meet the requirements of globally thinking customers of the automotive industry increase the competitiveness of Fritz Winter and therefore contribute a lot to safeguard the existing employments at Stadtallendorf.”
The new construction was made on a surface of 100 acres, the investment amounted to more than 100 million Euros. The staff is planned to be expanded to approx. 200 employees in a first step. A further expansion is intended.
