Well-founded advice on materials combined with the practical implementation of progressive design ideas is the day-to-day business of our research and development staff.

In co-operation with our customers' specialists, our materials advice service provides new application ideas for the tried and tested, moderately priced material of cast iron.

Our specialists supervise all production stages from the idea, testing and prototypes through to production.

We offer our customers a range of cast metal materials with the corresponding properties and alloy variants to suit the specific requirements of the component.

Design advice

Society and legislation place high demands on motor vehicle technology and expect significant progress in terms of noise, fuel consumption and emissions. For the design of engine cylinder block castings, this means new technical solutions with the aim of achieving:

  • light weight construction
  • lower sound emissions
  • higher torsion and bending strengths

To meet these demands, our design consultants have developed the load-bearing beam concept for the production of cylinder castings in conjunction with the material CGI. This concept involves new features in the design of cylinder blocks for passenger car and utility vehicle engines, and is used in practical applications.

The load-bearing beam concept means:     

Horizontal and vertical hollow sections form a  load-bearing framework "like a half-timbered house" in order to absorb the linear and radial force that acts on an engine. They relieve the strain on the cylinder block walls that are subject to heavy stress in conventional designs.

Cast iron parts for drive and braking systems designed on conventional production concepts or cylinder blocks designed on the load-bearing beam concept have a precision and quality which ensure a high performance and reliability.

CAD designs, simulations, FEM, rig tests and simultaneous engineering – even directly on our customers' premises – accelerate and optimise the development process.

Cast iron in conjunction with new design ideas and materials guarantee a high degree of freedom of design – and is certainly not just "old iron".

Advice on tools

To define the structure, set-up and design of the patterns and core moulding tools, our engineers, technicians and pattern makers are also available to provide advice to our customers.

The wide range of cast iron parts manufactured by us means that we have comprehensive expertise.

In our own pattern shop, with 140 skilled employees, we ensure that our customers' design wishes are quickly implemented.
