Job description: Model-makers, specialising in foundry model-making
Wherever foundries assume the task of casting for large quantities; models and model equipment are required for the objects to be cast. The models are made - accurate to fractions of a millimetre - according to drawings or a sample, primarily by means of manual or mechanical milling and by shaping the model parts and putting these together to make functional models or model equipment.
Aided by these, it is possible to mechanically produce large quantities of identical casting moulds at great speed from moulding sand for the casting machines. To produce or to change or maintain models you need the model design documents and drawings, which are produced either conventionally or computer-assisted with the aid of CAD programs.
Model-makers also set up moulding machines and check that they work precisely. You are therefore familiar with all activities in the moulding shop and foundry.
The apprenticeship lasts 3 1/2 years.
