Industrial mechanics ensure that machinery and plants function smoothly and malfunctions are rapidly eliminated.

To this end they test the machinery and plants, maintain them and, if necessary, repair them.

Under changed production conditions they adapt the machinery and the plant to the existing situation. They mount and dismantle parts and modules as far as possible without disturbing the production process.

By testing and measuring they search for errors, remedy malfunctions and, after a functions test, they arrange for the machinery and plants to be put back into service. They perform their work chiefly outside the production and repair workshops at varying locations.

The apprenticeship lasts 3 1/2 years.
