Job description: Foundry mechanic: specialisation “hand-mould casting“

A demanding job in today’s highly technological foundries. The broad basic training, which also includes metal-working and model construction (wood and plastic processing), is intended to familiarise foundry mechanics with all the methods of moulding, smelting and casting from the preparation of the moulding material to cleaning the casting.

Your actual tasks are to be found in the mechanical production of moulds and cores with which the hollow spaces in the castings are formed, in the mechanical reconditioning of mould material and in mechanical casting.

You monitor mechanically, hydraulically or pneumatically-controlled motion sequences which are regulated with the aid of remote indications both within the range of vision and from the control centre. You should be able to set up, monitor and maintain machines and production plants.

We give specialist training in: hand-mould casting.

In the specialist training in “hand-mould casting, castings are produced individually in small quantities with the aid of core boxes, core templates, ladles, pounding tools and vibrating tables.

The apprenticeship lasts 3 1/2 years.
